The one and only time in my radio career when I’ve worked the country music format was in the early 90’s at legendary KLAC/Los Angeles, and I actually really enjoyed it! A ten-gallon cowboy hat and fancy crap-kickin’ boots were not even a requirement! So it was a relatively easy transition to make from my background in Top 40, Oldies and Classic Hits (just don’t call the group ‘Alabama’ … The Beatles!)

This was during the peak hit-making time for some great country artists like Ronnie Milsap, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis, Martina McBride, Alan Jackson, The Judds, Hank Williams Jr. and so many more.

One of my favorites was George Strait, who is not only a great singer and performer, but also one of the true gentlemen in the music business.

Last year, George’s massively successful final tour, aptly called ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’ was captured on video. Consequently, August 28th will see ‘The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium’ (in Arlington, TX) released as a huge 40-song DVD set. (the concert includes a number of big-name guest artists)

I’m sure a real treat awaits both fans of ‘King George’ and of country music from that era … and no hat or boots are required!
