LittleEva:45:LetsTurkeyTrot:Logo:o1I’ve had this one roasting in the oven of the HOTH music vault since last Thanksgiving, so it’s well done – figuratively and musically. (and pretty darn timely I’d say!)

After two hits in 1962, The Loco-Motion (#1) and Keep Your Hands Off My Baby (#12), Let’s Turkey Trot was Little Eva‘s third and last Top 20 hit on Billboard (#20) in 1963. The trio of songs were all penned by the great Carole King and then-husband Gerry Goffin.

Born Eva Narcissus Boyd in North Carolina, she became the babysitter of Goffin’s and King’s daughter Louise Goffin through a connection with the girl group The Cookies, for whom the duo had written the hit Chains.

Little Eva’s singing career began when Goffin-King wrote ‘The Loco-Motion’ for Cameo-Parkway label vocalist Dee Dee Sharp – who turned down the song.

But it had become apparent to G-K that Boyd could sing – and she had the right sound to her voice for the song – so she recorded it instead.

[Note] When listening, be aware that you may not be able to get this song out of your head during dinner today!

Happy Thanksgiving!
