#JustHeardAtStarbucks®

45 ADAPTOR - 01 Yellow:Black Another day at the “office” and another “oh wow” (at least on the Starbucks sound system) here on their patio at Little Road in New Port Richey.

Among the increasingly played holiday hits is a smattering of regular music, including this one – again seemingly to promote their food menu (subliminally?) – Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie by Jay And The Techniques.

APPLES, PEACHES, PUMPKIN PIE
Jay And The Techniques
[1967]

APPP was the only Billboard Top Ten-er for this inter-racial group from Allentown, Pennsylvania, hitting #6 on September 3rd of 1967.

They also cracked the Top 20 with their next single, Keep The Ball Rolling (1967 #14)

Unknown to many is this wasn’t the original recording, but a re-titled cover version of an obscure song from a year earlier by Sam The Sham and the Pharoahs called Ready Or Not. (see below)

EXTRA TRAK
!

On my weekly program “The Hall of Fame Show with Rick Hunter ” on WOMC/Detroit, I did a feature where I’d play a hit cover version of a record followed by it’s rarely-heard (if ever) original.

I’m glad I have the opportunity here to resurrect it for you.

READY OR NOT
Sam The Sham and the Pharoahs
[1966]

Today I dug deep in the HouseoftheHits music vault (right from this patio – it’s magic!) to pull out the original of ‘Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie’ – titled Ready Or Not.

It’s by Sam The Sham and the Pharoahs, best known for their million-sellers Woolly Bully and Lil’ Red Riding Hood, and first appeared on the group’s 1966 Best Of hits compilation.
