Paul McCartney recorded Wonderful Christmastime by himself in 1979 during the sessions for his second solo album called McCartney II.

Following its release that year, Wonderful Christmastime peaked at #6 on the UK singles chart for the week ending January 5th, 1980.

And although it received regular holiday season airplay in the U.S., it didn’t make the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart that year – but did place on the charts of the magazine’s primary competitors, Cashbox and Record World.

It finally appeared on Billboard’s specially designated Christmas Singles chart for two weeks in December, 1984.

Including royalties from cover versions, it is estimated that McCartney makes $400,000 per year from the record; 2015 marks it’s 36th yuletime, so you do the math.

THE CHRISTMAS SONG

(Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)
Paul McCartney
[2012]

Christmas Kisses, a rare 7-inch holiday single from McCartney, was released on December 11, 2012 on the Starcon label in red vinyl (some were also issued in green vinyl).

It features his nice version of the 1946 yuletide classic The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire) backed with Wonderful Christmastime.

This was available for a limited time from Amazon in the U.S. and Canada, but appears to be unavailable now.

[Note] Strictly a vegetarian, Sir Paul changes the word “turkey” (“and some mistletoe”) to “holly”.
