HELP!, The Beatles’ second motion picture (and first in color) reaches the 50th anniversary of its release later this month – an occasion that was marked early by a special screening of the film on Thursday (7-16) at Liverpool’s venerable Woolton Picture House.

Theater spokesman Richie Baker said Fab Four fans were able to “relax in the splendor of this beautiful old cine.”

Here’s the opening song performance from HELP!

HELP! was directed by Richard Lester and, as well as starring The Beatles, featured Leo McKern, Eleanor Bron, Victor Spinetti, John Bluthal, Roy Kinnear and Patrick Cargill.

The comedy adventure saw the group come up against an evil eastern cult, who seek to retrieve a sacrificial ring, worn of course by Ringo.

According to the Fabs, the film, which debuted on July 29, 1965, was inspired by The Marx Brothers classic ‘Duck Soup.’
