It’s now been 50 years since May 6th in 1965, when, at a hotel in Clearwater, Florida, one of the greatest songs in Top 40 Rock & Roll history was born – one containing perhaps the most instantly identifiable opening riff ever heard. (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones.

It was in that hotel where Keith Richards (then performing and songwriting as Keith Richard) woke up from a dream in which he evidently ‘heard’ the now-forever-remembered open guitar chords their signature classic hit.

THEN: Jack Tar’s Fort Harrison Hotel in the mid-1960’s
NOW: Beginning in the late 1990’s, the structure was heavily – and expensively – renovated, an became known as The Flag Building or The Power Building.
Located at 215 South Fort Harrison Avenue in Clearwater, FL, it officially became the World Headquarters of The Church of Scientology on November 17, 2013.

The story of the Stones’ mega hit (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction is thought by some to be pure legend. Regardless, Jay Cridlin, Music/Culture Critic for The Tampa Bay Times has written a great article that was published in Sunday’s edition (05-03-15).

(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction was released in the United States on June 6, 1965 – exactly one month after its genesis in that Florida hotel room – and issued in the UK on August 20.
It reached #1 in America in July, and stayed at the top for 4 weeks. It was also was Billboard’s biggest hit single for 1965.
