What remains of the mid-60’s pop music phenomenon The Monkees are playing two shows in England in early September – one in London at the Hammersmith Apollo on September 4th, followed by Birmingham at the Moseley Music Fair 2015 on September 6th.

The original four members are now down to just two – drummer Micky Dolenz and guitarist Peter Tork.
The other originals are Michael Nesmith, 72, who continues to distance himself from anything Monkees – instead choosing to pursue other musical projects, and Davy Jones, who died suddenly in February of 2012.

The group that once outsold both The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, credited much of the success of their songs (six million-sellers, three #1’s) to great writers – Neil Diamond (I’m A Believer, A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You), Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart (Last Train To Clarksville, (I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone, Valleri) and Carole King (Pleasant Valley Sunday).
Those hit records, along with the instant success of the 18-month run of their NBC-TV series, The Monkees, launched the band to stardom.
Next month, The Monkees featuring Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork are expected to play all those hits – with selections from The Monkees 1968 cult comedy film Head, and an acoustic set both added to the London show.
Dolenz, now 70, recently enjoyed successful performances at New York City’s 54 Below – with another couple of dates set for late September at the Broadway supper club.
Tork, 73, is now based in Connecticut, where he performs with his own blues band.
