Two previous reunion performances by the early 70’s British rock band Faces have occurred this century – and both were minus the group’s vocalist, the great Rod Stewart.
But last night (9/5) the rocker-turned-nostalgia music crooner, who turned 70 last January, finally made it to get-together number three.
For the first time since 1975, Stewart joined the other original surviving members of the band – Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, and drummer/percussionist Kenney Jones – for a one-off benefit concert in the UK. (Videos link below)
Original members Ian McLagan (keyboards) died last year, and Ronnie Lane (bass) passed away in 1997.

The performance, called Rock’n’Horsepower, raised money for Prostate Cancer UK, and was held at a polo club owned by Jones in Ewhurst, Surrey.

Formed in 1969 from what remained of the mid-60’s UK pop group Small Faces (biggest hit Itchycoo Park) McLagan, Lane and Jones recruited Stewart and Wood from the Jeff Beck Group – with Rod replacing departed Small Faces vocalist Steve Marriott, who quit the group to join British rock band Humble Pie.

At both previous Faces reunions, Stewart was absent. He declined to be part of their one-time performance at London’s Royal Albert Hall in 2009. And in 2012, in Cleveland, OH at The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, he was unable to perform with the others due to illness.

Stewart’s new solo album called Another Country (his 30th), is scheduled for release on October 23rd.
