The highly anticipated (at least for me) Jeff Lynne’s ELO: Live in Hyde Park concert DVD has been released today (9-11).
Part of BBC Radio 2’s ‘Festival In A Day’ in London last September, the disc not only contains the band’s entire live performance, but also includes the documentary Mr. Blue Sky: The Story of Jeff Lynne & ELO.
Before 50,000 in attendance and nearly a million people tuned in to watch, the concert marked ELO’s first appearance on a festival stage in nearly three decades.
In a statement issued by Jeff Lynne during the July 29th announcement of the new ELO video:
“It seemed like the entire 50,000 were singing and clapping along, which carried on for the whole night. The Hyde Park concert turned out to be one of the most memorable shows ever for me.”
About returning to the concert stage after spending the past two decades strictly working in the recording studio, Jeff said:
“For the last 20 years, I’ve been sitting down in the studio playing, so you have to learn all over again how to stand up and sing and play. Once we got that good, that tight, we wanted to play another gig, but my manager said no. We were all fired up and it would’ve been perfect time to do it.”
A Live in Hyde Park press release stated that Lynne “was involved every step of the way, with every aspect of this production, especially the audio delivery.” – a statement supported by Lynne, who said last July – “It’s important to me that viewers experience the Hyde Park show exactly as it was performed on the night … in stereo.”
Jeff Lynne’s ELO: Live In Hyde Park is available in DVD, Blu-ray and digital formats.

And, in non-related, but timely news, Jeff Lynne’s ELO have just announced the signing of a global recording deal with Columbia Records, with an expected new album of ELO music for the first time in 15 years.
As with their previous chart-topping albums, Lynne continues to serve as ELO’s producer, songwriter, arranger, lead singer and guitarist, and was the creative genius behind The Electric Light Orchestra – who sold more than 50 million albums worldwide.

The release of ELO’s Hyde Park concert DVD, coupled with the new worldwide deal with Columbia, marks an exciting past 12 months for Lynne, 67, who received a star on the famous Hollywood Walk of Fame last April.
