Ever since the announcement of its recording, fans of Phil Spector’s sixties Wall of Sound and in particular, one of its main stars, Darlene Love, have been eagerly waiting for September 17th to arrive.
The new 14-track album by Love, her first in 30 years, is called Introducing Darlene Love, and will finally be available on Friday.
Darlene, along with the album’s producer Steven van Zandt, premiered IDL during a sold-out show at Asbury Park’s Paramount Theater on September 12th, and before performing a half-dozen album tracks for the museum audience, Love and Van Zandt sat down for a great Q & A with Billboard Magazine.
Another sold-out performance of tracks from the new album, by Love and Van Zandt, is being held Friday at Hollywood’s Whisky A Go Go … I would LOVE to be there!

Here’s the great video for the infectious first single from the album – Forbidden Nights.
In it, Darlene is seen joyously driving a vintage red Cadillac convertible, heading to the beach at New Jersey’s Asbury Park – while singing her new record, of course.
Along the way, she encounters a number of well-known entertainment types – in order of appearance: vocalist Joan Jett, Late Night with David Letterman musical director Paul Shaffer, musician Elvis Costello, comedian Bill Murray, Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt (also the album’s producer) together with Springsteen himself, and lastly, a cameo by a heavily bearded Dave Letterman.
