Can’t Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe by iconic soul singer Barry White reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100; it replaced I Shot The Sheriff by Eric “Slowhand” Clapton.
It would, however, be a short stay at the top for the smooth, deep-voiced White. The following week, CGEOYL,B was supplanted by Andy Kim’s Rock Me Gently, and ultimately it would be Barry’s only #1 hit record.
The song also was written and produced by White – and it, along with I’m Gonna Love You Just A Little More, Baby (1973 • #3), Never, Never Gonna Give You Up (1974 • #7), You’re The First, The Last, My Everything (1975 • #2) and It’s Ecstasy When You Lay Down Next To Me (1977 • #4) were all million sellers during his hit-making heyday.
White was backed on all of his hit records by his own ensemble of studio musicians known as Love Unlimited Orchestra.
As with several songs by Isaac Hayes appearing in the TV cartoon series South Park, ‘Can’t Get Enough of Your Love, Babe’ was used in a few episodes of The Simpsons.
