The Norwegian trio called a-ha became the first group from that country to reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with Take On Me.
For it’s short-lived stay at the top, it replaced Oh Sheila by the Michigan R&B group Ready For The World – and just one week later it gave way to the strong Whitney Houston single, Saving All My Love For You.
Formed in Oslo in 1982, a-ha included (L-R) Pål Waaktaar-Savoy (guitar/keyboards), Morton Harket (vocals) and Magne Furuholmen (keyboards)
The single was from the band’s debut album, Hunting High and Low, which reached #1 in their native Norway, #2 in the UK and #15 in America.
