About ‘The Bells Of St. Mary’s’ : The origin of TBOSM’s goes back to 1917. It was penned by E. Emmett Adams and Douglas Furber, who were inspired by the sound of the ringing bells after visiting the oldest house of worship in Southampton, England, St. Mary’s Church.

Trivia Stuff: It’s one of the lesser-known seasonal songs because it has no direct lyrical references to Christmas and the holiday season.
But from from the revival of the song during a Christmas-time pageant scene in a 1945 Bing Crosby/Ingrid Bergman movie of the same name, both the film and song have since been synonymous with the Yuletide season.

‘A Christmas Gift For You’ Fact: The album jacket and promotional photos were taken in Los Angeles in the late summer of 1963. Being still quite warm in L.A., all the artists involved on album became very uncomfortable in the heavy Christmas costumes (from Darlene Love via correspondent Doug Thompson).
