A holiday tradition for pop music lovers since 1963, A Christmas Gift For You from Philles Records (aka ‘Phil Spector’s Christmas Album’) is being presented here track-by-track over the Yuletide season – all 13 songs in their RARE re-mixed two-track STEREO form!
One track per day will be featured during the holiday season during the ‘Phil Spector 12 Days (+1) of Christmas Special ‘ which will end on December 24th (Links for the tracks you may have missed thus far are below).
Happy Holidays – and enjoy!
About ‘Marshmellow World’ : MW was co-written in 1949 by Carl Sigman (lyrics) and Peter DeRose (music).
No less than six separate male crooners of the day recorded the song in 1950, including Bing Crosby, who’s version was the first to became a hit. It peaked at #24 on the Billboard Singles Chart in January of 1951.
•
Trivia Stuff: Including those half-dozen earliest versions in 1950, the song has been ‘covered’ by as many as 30 recording artists over the years.
And as with other tracks on this album, there’s no specific lyrical references to Christmas – although it’s always been considered a yuletime holiday tune.
