About ‘SILENT NIGHT‘ – This non-secular Christmas carol was composed in 1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber around the lyrics of Joseph Mohr in the Austria.
Mohr had brought the words to Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for the church service. Both performed the carol during the mass on the night of December 24th of 1818 near Salzburg.

Trivia Stuff – Among the scores of recordings of this almost 200 year old song, the 1935 version by crooner Bing Crosby ranks as the third biggest single of all time, and has sold in excess of 30 million copies (his 1942 rendition of White Christmas ranks first – selling over 50 million singles worldwide).
