Regrettably, I have limited knowledge of jazz and its musicians, but I do enjoy the music genre from some of the bigger names.
One is the great Dave Brubeck Quartet, who’s signature hit played on the audio system today here on the patio at Starbuck’s on Little Road in New Port Richey, FL (yes, warm enough to be out here again!)

TAKE FIVE
Dave Brubeck Quartet
[1961]
Jazz pianist Dave Brubeck led the legendary quartet which bore his name and included Paul Desmond on alto sax, bassist Eugene Wright and drummer Joe Morello.
They became one of America’s all-time favorite jazz ensembles – especially on college campuses.
This cool-sounding instrumental called Take Five, written by Desmond, reached #25 on Billboard in the fall of 1961.
This is the full-length version from the classic Brubeck album Time Out in HD Stereo!

Brubeck, who received a Grammy ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in 1996, died just one day short of his 92nd birthday in December of 2012.

THE SWINGIN’ SHEPHERD BLUES
Moe Koffman Quartette
[1957]
Toronto, Ontario-born saxophonist/flutist Morris (Moe) Koffman took a song originally titled Blues a la Canadiana, renamed it The Swingin’ Shepherd Blues and recorded it as part of his 1957 album Cool And Hot Sax.
The quartette, Koffman, Ed Bickert, Hugh Currie and Ron Rully, took the instrumental single, released on the U.S. label Jubilee, to #23 on the Hot 100 in February of 1958.
For many years, Koffman played gigs in and around Toronto, where I have fond memories of seeing his performances a number of times at a restaurant called George’s Spaghetti House, at which he made regular appearances.
Blow your lips off for us, Moe!

Koffman died from cancer in 2001 at age 72.
