About ‘White Christmas’ – What is known is that the song was written by the great Irving Berlin. What isn’t certain is when and where he wrote it, but the most credible account has it being penned by him in 1940 in a hotel room in warm La Quinta, California.

Trivia StuffWC was first performed in public on Christmas Day, 1941 by Bing Crosby on his NBC radio show The Kraft Music Hall; it later would become his signature song.

Bing recorded the song for the Decca Records label in late May of 1942 – reportedly in just 18 minutes. It was an early Christmas season release on July 30th! (which may partly explain why the record didn’t do particularly well initially)

It’s appeared on various Billboard charts every year until 1963 when it finally dropped off the Hot 100, and since 1942, his version has become the biggest selling single of all time (over 100 million copies worldwide).
